One of a stack of low-budget board-type games. The basic story is here: Vintage Games and Playing Pieces. There’s a list of the games below.
For Around The World, each player places his marker on the START and moves clockwise around the playing board. The player bringing his marker HOME first wins the game. Each spin gives the player two numbers: one on the inner circle, and one on the outer circle of the spinner. The player must move in two directions each turn, one to be used in crossing the lanes and one to be used along one lane. (Huh?) Player has the choice which number he wants to use in either direction. If he cannot move both directions on the same turn, he loses a turn. Player landing on a red space moves back three spaces along the same lane. Player landing on a blue space has an additional spin. Player landing on a space already occupied by an opponent send the opponent back to start. (Ouch!)
Well, the general confusion of moving in two directions–along and across lanes–coupled with the cutthroat nature of sending your opponent back to start just because you landed on his space, gives this game a solid rating of 1 1/2 stars. We have to say this game is probably good for at least a thrill every 58 seconds or so.
